Summary

The Secretary may provide, build, or keep up certain services and facilities for employees and their dependents who are posted in remote places when those things are not already available. These include emergency medical care and supplies; food and other basic supplies; dining facilities; audio‑visual gear for recreation and training; payback to employees who give food, clothing, medicine, or other items in an emergency; living and working quarters; and transportation of school‑age dependents to the nearest proper school. Medical care, food, and dining must be sold at prices that reflect reasonable value as the Secretary decides. Money repaid under these rules goes into the Treasury. The Secretary can use that money to pay the costs directly, to repay or advance the budget accounts that first covered the costs, or to refund extra amounts. Payments may also be put into a working capital fund, including the fund under section 7263, and used under the rules for that fund if the Department may use it for the paid work or services.
