Title 42 › CHAPTER 88 — URANIUM MILL TAILINGS RADIATION CONTROL › SUBCHAPTER I — REMEDIAL ACTION PROGRAM › § 7924
Starting January 1, 1980, and once a year until January 1, 1986, the Secretary must send a report to Congress about how work required by this law is going. The report must cover the costs (actual and estimated), how much States and Indian tribes are taking part, how well cleanup actions are working and any problems, and any other useful information. The Secretary must prepare the report with the Commission, the Secretary of the Interior, and the Administrator, and include each of their separate comments and recommendations. The Commission must also send the part of the report that deals with its own powers under title II. By July 1, 1979, the Secretary must give Congress a list of all sites on public or acquired U.S. lands that have leftover radioactive materials or other radioactive waste (but not waste from making electric power). That list must say which Federal agency is in charge, name nearby properties or structures that are or might be contaminated, describe actions taken or planned to remove the material, and say how sites are stabilized to stop radon or other harm. If a site is not yet controlled, the report must say what will be done and when. The Administrator, with the Commission, must report by January 1, 1980 on locations and hazards of uranium mine wastes and suggest ways to get rid of those hazards. Copies of these reports must also go to specified House and Senate committees. The Commission and the Secretary must keep and share non-secret information from cleanups and long‑term care in an organized and public way.
