Title 43 › Chapter 16— SALE AND DISPOSAL OF PUBLIC LANDS › § 687c
Allows the Secretary of the Interior to lease public land in Alaska for fur farming to U.S. corporations, U.S. citizens, or groups of such citizens. Leases can be for up to 640 acres and up to 10 years, under rules set by the Secretary. For islands or land on islands, the Secretary may allow leases up to 30 square miles. Leases do not block mineral prospecting, locating, developing, leasing, or patenting under the laws that apply. The rule does not apply to the Pribilof Islands, which are a special reservation. Every permit or lease must keep for the Secretary the right to allow parts of the leased land to be used for taking, preparing, making, or storing fish or fish products, or for trade or business, under laws now in force or laws passed after July 3, 1926.
