§753 Lines of Division of Half Quarter Sections; How Run

When a quarter section is divided, the dividing line must run north to south. The corners and sizes of the half‑quarter pieces are fixed using the methods in section 752. Fractional sections of 160 acres or more should, as nearly as possible, be split into half‑quarter sections under rules the Secretary of the Interior sets. When a half‑quarter is divided, the line must run east to west, and fractional pieces with fewer or more than 160 acres should, as nearly as practicable, be split into quarter‑quarter sections under the Secretary’s rules.
