Title 44 › Chapter 17— DISTRIBUTION AND SALE OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS › § 1710
At the end of each regular session of Congress, the Superintendent of Documents must publish a complete index of public documents following a plan approved by the Joint Committee on Printing. The Government Publishing Office must send him copies of everything it prints, and department and agency heads must send copies of every nonconfidential document they issue. He must also make a one‑volume consolidated Congressional index and print 2,000 extra copies of each index in addition to the usual 200 for the Senate, 800 for the House, and 1,000 for the Superintendent's distribution.
