The Director must run and oversee how agencies protect and share data under this subchapter. The Director can make rules or give guidance so agencies treat the rules the same way. The Director must set up a process to name whole agencies or parts of them as statistical agencies or units. The Director must publish guidance that gives the criteria for those names and explains how the process will be open. Designated Statistical Agency — an agency type defined in section 3576(e) that does statistical work. Agency heads must give the Director reports and other information when asked. Each Designated Statistical Agency must send a yearly report to the Director and to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform of the House of Representatives and to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate, including copies of written agreements under section 3576(c)(1). The Director must summarize those reports and actions in the annual report to Congress on statistical programs under section 3504(e)(2).
