§3562 Coordination and Oversight of Policies

Summary

The Director must run and oversee the confidentiality and disclosure rules under this subchapter. The Director can create rules or guidance so agencies interpret the rules the same way. The Director must set up a process to name agencies or parts of agencies as statistical agencies or units and must issue guidance that gives the criteria and explains how the process will be open and clear. Agency heads may make rules to carry out this subchapter, but rules about releasing data must come from the agency that collected the data. The Director must review and approve any agency rules for consistency. Agency heads must give the Director any reports or information the Director asks for. Each Designated Statistical Agency (see section 3576(e)) must report yearly to the Director, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs about actions under section 3576 and include copies of written agreements under section 3576(c)(1). The Director must summarize these reports and actions in the annual report to Congress on statistical programs under section 3504(e)(2).
