§11110 Seamen’s Clothing

Summary
Clothing that belongs to a seaman cannot be taken or held to pay a debt or claim. Anyone who keeps a seaman’s clothes can be fined up to $500, jailed up to 6 months, or both.

The clothing of a seaman is exempt from attachments and liens. A person detaining a seaman’s clothing shall be fined not more than $500, imprisoned for not more than 6 months, or both.
