Ship captains who fail to keep the required official logbook or who do not make required entries must pay a $200 fine to the Government. Anyone who makes or helps make a logbook entry more than 24 hours after the ship reached its final port of discharge, and that entry reports something that happened before arrival, must pay a $150 fine.
