U.S. vessels that must be inspected, except those on a voyage from a U.S. port to a Canadian port, must keep a logbook (paper or electronic) that the Secretary can review on request. The log must show when each seaman and each officer started and stopped their watch, how many hours each served on the vessel, and every seaman’s illness or injury, what it was, and the medical care given.
