Title 46 › Subtitle Subtitle II— Vessels and Seamen › Part J— Measurement of Vessels › Chapter 145— REGULATORY MEASUREMENT › Subchapter I— GENERAL › § 14504
The Secretary must remeasure a vessel in four cases: if the Secretary or the owner says the original measurement was wrong; if the vessel or how its space is used changes enough to affect tonnage; if the vessel goes from being measured under subchapter III to subchapter II; or if it was measured under subchapter II and the owner asks for measurement under subchapter III. Except as stated here and in chapter 143, a vessel already measured does not need remeasurement to get another document or endorsement under chapter 121.
