Vessels that must be inspected need an initial certification check before they are used. After that, passenger vessels, nautical school vessels, and small passenger vessels that can carry more than 12 passengers on trips to other countries must be inspected at least once a year. All other inspected vessels must be checked at least once every 5 years.
