The Secretary must accept a foreign ship’s load line marks and its load line certificate as meeting U.S. requirements when the foreign country’s load line laws are like ours or when the country is part of an international load line agreement that includes the United States. The Secretary may also exercise control over the ship in the ways allowed by that international agreement. This acceptance does not apply to ships from countries that do not accept load lines given under U.S. law.
