The Board can require rail companies, lessors, and businesses that supply rail cars for services it controls to use specific forms for records about traffic, money, and car services. The Board or a staff member with ID can, on request, enter and inspect a carrier’s land, buildings, and equipment. The Board can also inspect and copy records of carriers, lessors, associations, related companies when the records matter to their dealings with a carrier, and car suppliers when the Board set the record form. The Board can set how long operating, accounting, and financial records must be kept.
