The Secretary or the Board can require carriers and brokers to keep records in forms they set. That includes records about traffic movement and money received or spent. They, or an employee they choose, can, after showing proper ID, inspect in person or in writing the land, buildings, equipment, and any records of a carrier, broker, or association. They can also inspect and copy records of companies that control, are controlled by, or share control with a carrier if those records are relevant to their dealings. The Secretary or Board can also set how long operating, accounting, and financial records must be kept.
