If the President has not officially nominated someone to fill an inspector general vacancy within the 210-day period that begins on the later of the vacancy date or the date a prior nomination was rejected, withdrawn, or returned, the President must, within 30 days after that 210-day period ends and then no later than June 1 each year after, notify the appropriate congressional committees (as defined in section 12 of the Inspector General Act of 1978). The notice must say why no nomination has been made and give a target date for when the President will send an official nomination.
