Senior political appointees cannot get any awards during the Presidential election period. Presidential election period means June 1 of a year when the President is elected through January 20 after that election. A senior politically appointed officer means someone who, during that time, holds either a Senior Executive Service job that is not a career appointment or a confidential/policy-making Schedule C position.
