An agency’s Inspector General or someone they name can give a cash award to an agency employee who reports fraud, waste, or mismanagement when that report produces cost savings for the agency. The award can’t be more than the smaller of $10,000 or 1% of the savings the IG or designee says came from the report. If there is no Inspector General, the agency head must pick someone to decide and give the awards.
