Title 5 › Part III— EMPLOYEES › Subpart D— Pay and Allowances › Chapter 55— PAY ADMINISTRATION › Subchapter II— WITHHOLDING PAY › § 5513
If the Government Accountability Office finds, when checking an official’s account, that a payment to someone in an Executive agency was wrong or a charge should be raised, the person’s pay can be held back, all or part, until they pay back the full amount under rules set by the head of that agency. This does not change other laws about collecting money owed by accountable, certifying, or disbursing officials.
