Title 5 › Part III— EMPLOYEES › Subpart D— Pay and Allowances › Chapter 57— TRAVEL, TRANSPORTATION, AND SUBSISTENCE › Subchapter IV— MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS › § 5760
Provides round‑trip travel for up to three family members of a federal employee who was held captive and then returned (repatriated). An agency head may also pay for an attendant if a family member cannot travel alone because of age, health, or another reason and no eligible family member can serve as the attendant. If no family member can go to the repatriation site, the agency may pay travel for up to two people related to and chosen by the employee. The covered employee is one the agency head finds was held captive and who is repatriated to a site inside or outside the United States. Family member is defined under 37 U.S.C. 451(a). Travel is a round trip from the person’s home to the repatriation site. The agency may also give a per diem or reimburse actual necessary expenses up to the rates in 37 U.S.C. 464. Travel may use the means listed in 37 U.S.C. 452(d). Allowances can be paid in advance, and reimbursements cannot exceed the cost of government‑procured round‑trip air travel.
