Title 5 › Part III— EMPLOYEES › Subpart E— Attendance and Leave › Chapter 63— LEAVE › Subchapter II— OTHER PAID LEAVE › § 6324
If a member of the D.C. Metropolitan Police, the D.C. Fire Department, the U.S. Park Police, or the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division is injured or gets sick because of doing their job, that time off cannot be taken out of their sick leave. Whether the injury or illness was caused by the job is decided under rules made by the District of Columbia Council (for D.C. police and fire), the Secretary of the Interior (for the U.S. Park Police), and the Secretary of Homeland Security (for the Secret Service Uniformed Division). This does not apply to Secret Service Uniformed Division members who are covered under chapter 84 for retirement benefits.
