Title 5 › Part III— EMPLOYEES › Subpart G— Insurance and Annuities › Chapter 81— COMPENSATION FOR WORK INJURIES › Subchapter I— GENERALLY › § 8117
Most federal employees outside the Postal Service do not get pay for the first 3 days of a temporary disability. They do get paid if the disability lasts more than 14 days, becomes permanent, or the rules in sections 8103 and 8104 apply. Postal Service employees also get no pay or continued pay for the first 3 days, but they may use annual leave, sick leave, or unpaid leave. If the disability goes over 14 days or becomes permanent, their sick or annual leave can be restored or they can be paid for the unpaid leave under this law.
