The President can remove a member of the uniformed services from the official rolls if they lose their retired pay under this law. If that retired pay is later put back under this subchapter or under section 2 of the Act of September 26, 1961 (75 Stat. 648), the President can restore the person’s military status and all rights and benefits lost by them and their beneficiaries. If the restored person was a commissioned officer, only the President can reappoint them to the same grade and the same place on the retired list they held when removed.
