§8480 Subpoena Authority

Summary

The Executive Director can order people to hand over books, documents, electronic files, or other materials needed to do the work under these parts. Anyone who gets such an order and honestly provides the requested materials cannot be sued or held liable, even if federal, state, or local law says otherwise; this protection covers people and organizations, including officers, employees, companies, and partnerships. If someone refuses, the U.S. district court where the investigation is happening or where the person is found must, when asked, order them to comply and may punish contempt for disobeying. The Executive Director must write rules to carry out this authority.
