Title 50 › Chapter 10— HELIUM GAS › § 167n
The Secretary, through the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey, must within 2 years after October 2, 2013, do several studies and make data available. Working with state geological surveys, the Secretary must finish a national helium inventory that finds and measures helium (including helium-3) in each reservoir and notes other gases present. The Secretary must also share modern seismic and well-log data for the Bush Dome Reservoir. Working with international agencies, the Secretary must finish a global helium inventory. Working with the Energy Information Administration, the Secretary must report on global demand trends, give a 10-year U.S. demand forecast across all sectors, and make an inventory of U.S. helium uses that lists quantities, recycling possibilities, and substitutes. The results must be sent to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Natural Resources. Congress authorized $1,000,000 to carry out these tasks.
