Title 50 › Chapter 44— NATIONAL SECURITY › Subchapter I— COORDINATION FOR NATIONAL SECURITY › § 3054
The Director of National Intelligence must, working with the Secretary of Defense, set up and keep a special analytic unit inside the intelligence community to handle intelligence about U.S. personnel not accounted for after December 31, 1990. That unit is called the POW/MIA analytic capability of the intelligence community. "Unaccounted for United States personnel" means either a missing person (see 10 U.S.C. 1513(1) for that definition) or a U.S. national killed while acting for the United States whose remains have not been returned.
