§3371a Assessment of Foreign Intelligence Threats to Federal Elections

Summary

Requires the Director of National Intelligence to lead a check of state election systems and foreign intelligence threats for any regularly scheduled Federal election occurring after December 31, 2018. The DNI must start no later than 1 year before the election and finish the main assessment at least 180 days before it. At least 180 days before the election, the DNI must send a report about security weaknesses and foreign intelligence threats to congressional leadership and the appropriate congressional committees. The DNI must update the threat assessment and send that update at least 90 days before the election. Appropriate congressional committees are the congressional intelligence committees, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and the House Committee on Homeland Security. Congressional leadership means the Senate majority and minority leaders and the Speaker and minority leader of the House. Security vulnerability has the meaning given in section 650 of title 6.
