Foreign nationals must not give money or anything valuable, promise to give it, or spend money to influence federal, state, or local elections. They also may not give to a political party committee or pay for campaign ads or other election-related communications. No one may ask for, accept, or take those kinds of contributions from a foreign national. "Foreign national" means: (1) a foreign principal under the foreign agents law (but not a U.S. citizen); and (2) a person who is not a U.S. citizen or national and who is not a lawful permanent resident.
