Properties that are important for the religion or culture of an Indian tribe or a Native Hawaiian organization can be put on the National Register. Federal agencies must talk with any tribe or Native Hawaiian organization that cares about such property when acting under section 306108. In Hawaii, the State Historic Preservation Officer must consult Native Hawaiian organizations about nominations and the cultural parts of preservation plans, and must make an agreement (MOU) with them under section 302303.
