§2008c Rural Business-cooperative Service Programs Technical Assistance and Training

Summary

The Secretary can give grants to public agencies, nonprofit groups, colleges, federally recognized Indian Tribes, rural cooperatives, and economic development authorities. The money pays for technical help and training so these groups can prepare and apply for programs run by the Secretary through the Rural Business‑Cooperative Service. Grants can help communities plan for business and economic needs, find public and private financing, make reports and surveys, and write applications for financial help for rural businesses. Grants must be given first to persistent poverty counties and high poverty communities, as the Secretary decides. Up to $5,000,000 a year was authorized for fiscal years 2019 through 2023, and that money stays available until spent. Any authorized amount not used in one year can be carried into the next year.
