Title 7 › Chapter 64— AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH, EXTENSION, AND TEACHING › Subchapter VII— PROGRAMS FOR HISPANIC, ALASKA NATIVE, AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN SERVING INSTITUTIONS › § 3241
The Secretary can award competitive grants to colleges and universities that serve large Hispanic student populations so they can improve education, applied research, and related community programs. Grants must be used to boost equity for underrepresented students; strengthen campus teaching and services (like libraries, curriculum, faculty, lab equipment, delivery systems, and student recruitment/retention) for food and agricultural sciences; recruit and pay students from high school through a doctoral degree for careers in food, agriculture, and natural resources; and support cooperative projects between 2 or more Hispanic-serving institutions or with state government or private partners to share faculty, facilities, and equipment and improve food and agricultural teaching. Congress authorized $40,000,000 for each fiscal year 1997 through 2023 for these grants.
