Yearly program money must be split as follows. Between 15% and 25% must go to cooperative work with the National Weather Service. Between 15% and 25% must fund a National Institute of Food and Agriculture competitive grants program. Between 25% and 35% must be divided equally among the participating States chosen that year. The rest goes to the Agricultural Weather Office and NIFA to run the program. The funds cannot be used to build facilities. No State or agency may spend more than 30% of its funds on equipment. When sharing agricultural and climate information with producers, the role of private weather companies must be considered. The law authorizes $5,000,000 for each fiscal year 2008 through 2012 and $1,000,000 for each fiscal year 2014 through 2023.
