Title 7 › Chapter 89— PECAN PROMOTION AND RESEARCH › § 6001
Creates a national program to promote pecans, pay for research, and share information with the industry and consumers. It explains that pecans are a native American nut and an important food. Many farmers, shellers, and processors grow and handle pecans, and millions of people in the U.S. and abroad eat them. Pecans need to be high quality, available, and marketed well. State groups already work on promotion, research, and education, and a coordinated national effort is needed because pecans move in interstate and foreign trade and even local sales affect that trade. Says it is in the public interest to set up a fair process to create, fund (by fees on pecans produced or imported into the United States), and run a continuous program of promotion, research, and industry and consumer information. The program’s goals are to strengthen the pecan industry’s market position, keep and grow domestic and foreign markets, and find new markets and uses. It does not let anyone control how many pecans are produced or stop anyone from producing pecans.
