Title 7 › Chapter 91— LIME PROMOTION, RESEARCH, AND CONSUMER INFORMATION › § 6201
Creates a funded program for lime research, promotion, and consumer information. Congress found that many people grow limes, almost all U.S. limes come from the States of Florida and California, limes move in interstate and foreign trade (and even limes that don’t still affect that trade), large amounts of limes have been imported recently, and good markets are essential to growers and others who handle or process limes. Congress also found that a coordinated program is needed and that lime producers, lime producer-handlers, lime handlers, and lime importers cannot set up or pay for such a program alone. The law lets an orderly system be made to develop and pay for the program by an adequate assessment. The goal is to make the lime industry stronger in domestic and foreign markets and to keep, grow, and expand those markets, treating domestic and imported limes fairly. It does not require quality rules, control how many limes are grown, or limit any grower’s right to produce limes.
