Title 7 › Chapter 99— SHEEP PROMOTION, RESEARCH, AND INFORMATION › § 7102
Defines the key words used for the national sheep and wool promotion, research, education, and information program. Board is the National Sheep Promotion, Research, and Information Board created under section 7104(b). Executive Committee is the Board’s executive group under section 7104(g). Order is the sheep and wool promotion, research, education, and information order issued under section 7103. Department is the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Secretary is the Secretary of Agriculture. Customs Service is the United States Customs Service of the Department of the Treasury. Unit is each State, group of States, or class on the Board. State means each of the 50 States and United States means the 50 States and the District of Columbia. Person means an individual or any legal business or group. Sheep means ovine animals of any age, including lambs. Producer is someone who owns or acquires sheep but is not a feeder. Feeder feeds lambs until they reach slaughter weight. Exporter exports U.S. live sheep or greasy wool. Importer brings sheep or sheep products into the United States. Handler buys and sells greasy wool. Processor slaughters sheep or turns greasy wool into degreased wool. Carbonized wool is wool treated with acid to remove plant matter. Greasy wool is unwashed wool. Degreased wool is mostly cleaned wool. Pulled wool is taken from a slaughtered sheep’s skin. Raw wool means greasy, pulled, degreased, or carbonized wool. Wool is fiber from a sheep’s fleece. Sheep products are items made from sheep, including wool and things with wool fiber. Wool products are items made from wool. Consumer information, producer information, and industry information are types of facts and programs meant to help shoppers, producers, and the industry. Promotion means actions, including paid ads, to improve the image and sales of sheep products. Research and education are studies and information activities to improve production, processing, marketing, or use of sheep and sheep products. Qualified State sheep board is a State-level promotion group that is authorized or organized in the State, collects voluntary funds and runs promotion or research or consumer programs, and is recognized by the Board.
