Title 7 › Chapter 102— EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE › § 7511a
Gives grants to emergency feeding groups so they can pay costs to collect, store, track, and deliver perishable or time-sensitive food. The Secretary must use the money authorized below to make the grants. At least 50% of each year’s grant money must go to groups that mostly serve rural areas to grow rural food bank capacity and to help them better get, store, track, and deliver perishable foods. Eligible entity: an emergency feeding organization. Grants may pay for things like creating and running computer systems to track time-sensitive food; buildings, equipment, transport, and operating costs for collecting and storing perishable food; supporting small or mid-size farms, fisheries, and local food donations; providing recovered food to food banks; finding food donors, nonprofit providers, and people in need in rural areas; and constructing, expanding, or repairing facilities or equipment. Congress authorized $15,000,000 for each fiscal year 2008 through 2023.
