Clarified NRC Review Expectations for CP Risk Info
If your company plans to apply for a construction permit (CP) for a light-water power reactor under 10 CFR part 50, the NRC's draft Interim Staff Guidance clarifies the scope and depth of the NRC staff review of risk assessments and severe-accident information that must be included in the CP application. The draft ISG is meant to supplement the SRP (NUREG-0800) and related guidance.
Does Not Backfit Current Licenses or Part 52 Approvals
The NRC states that issuing this ISG as final would not constitute backfitting under 10 CFR 50.109, would not constitute forward fitting, and would not affect issue finality for approvals issued under 10 CFR part 52. The guidance would not apply to current licensees or applicants or existing or requested approvals under 10 CFR part 52.
