Polio Added to NHSN Reporting
CDC added Polio to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Pathogens of High Consequence form. Facilities enrolled in NHSN (over 37,000 actively reporting facilities, including over 6,000 acute care facilities) will be asked, via the NHSN application, to select diseases they report and provide counts of hospitalized patients with confirmed disease split by adult and pediatric patients. Participation is required for healthcare facilities that report through the NHSN platform.
Large Increase in Estimated Reporting Time
CDC requests OMB approval to add 111,021 estimated annual burden hours to Form 57.130 (Pathogens of High Consequence), bringing that form's total estimated burden to 777,146 hours and the entire NHSN package to 4,508,255 annual burden hours. The estimate covers 3,650 Infection Preventionists/Microbiologists with 365 responses per respondent at an average burden of 5/60 hours per response; CDC states there is no cost to respondents other than their time.
