FY2025 SEED Grants Open to Apply
The Department of Education is inviting applications for the FY2025 Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant program. Applications are available January 17, 2025, with a transmittal deadline of March 18, 2025 and an intergovernmental review deadline of May 19, 2025; eligible applicants include LEAs, institutions of higher education, schools, national nonprofits, and other entities named in the notice.
Evidence Requirement: Cite 1–2 Studies
Applicants must identify at least one and no more than two citations to meet the evidence requirements for Absolute Priority 1 or 2, describe the positive outcomes and relevance, and ensure the evidence is publicly available (with links). If the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) queries study authors and author queries remain incomplete within 14 days, the study will be deemed ineligible for the competition.
Up to 13 Competitive Preference Points
The competition awards up to 13 additional competitive preference points across three priorities: up to 5 points for Increasing Educator Diversity (Priority 1), up to 3 points for Promoting Equity and Meeting Social/Emotional/Academic Needs (Priority 2), and up to 5 points for Supporting a Diverse Educator Workforce and Professional Growth (Priority 3).
Apprenticeship Pathways Encouraged — Low Cost to Participants
Invitational Priority 1 encourages applicants to develop registered apprenticeship programs for K-12 teachers that include paid on-the-job learning and mentor support; such programs should have little to no financial burden for participants or provide loan forgiveness, and result in full State teacher licensure and at least one year of paid clinical experience.
Only Two Absolute Priorities Eligible
For FY2025 SEED awards, the Department will consider only applications that meet one of two absolute priorities: Absolute Priority 1 (Supporting Effective Teachers) or Absolute Priority 2 (Supporting Effective Principals or Other School Leaders). Applicants may address only one absolute priority and each absolute priority is its own funding category.
