Notice
Summary
Southern Star wants to build a new compressor station in Osage County, Oklahoma, to boost natural gas delivery to Kansas and Missouri. The government is preparing an environmental check and plans to share it by July 31, 2025, with a final decision expected by October 29, 2025. This project could mean more reliable gas service and involves careful review before moving forward.
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
More gas delivery to KS and MO
The Cedar Vale Compressor Station Project would allow Southern Star to deliver about 98,000 dekatherms per day of natural gas to customers in Kansas and Missouri and increase the capacity of its transmission system. If built, customers in KS and MO could see more reliable natural gas service because the pipeline system capacity would be larger.
Local land, air, and wildlife concerns
An affected landowner raised concerns the project could cause erosion, harm special-status species, affect land use and land value, affect air quality and noise, implicate tribal mineral rights, and impact vegetation, wildlife, and livestock near the proposed Osage County, Oklahoma site. The Commission says all substantive comments about these issues will be addressed in the environmental assessment.
FERC help for landowners and tribes
FERC's Office of Public Participation (OPP) can help landowners, environmental justice communities, Tribal members, and others access information about the project and navigate filings such as interventions, comments, or rehearing requests. OPP contact is (202) 502-6595 and the notice lists an email and other FERC help lines for assistance.
