Mount McKinley Name Reinstated
Within 30 days of January 20, 2025, the Secretary of the Interior must reinstate the name "Mount McKinley" in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). The surrounding national park area will keep the name Denali National Park and Preserve.
Gulf Renamed to 'Gulf of America'
Within 30 days of January 20, 2025, the Secretary of the Interior must rename the U.S. Continental Shelf area formerly called the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America," update the GNIS, remove references to "Gulf of Mexico," and ensure federal maps, contracts, and documents use the new name. The area specified is bounded by Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida and extends seaward to the boundary with Mexico and Cuba.
Engage Alaska Native Groups on Local Names
The Secretary of the Interior must work with Alaska Native entities and state and local organizations to adopt names for landmarks that honor the history and culture of the Alaskan people.
