President Allows Cutting Oil Purchases from Iran
On May 7, 2026 the President determined, pursuant to section 1245(d)(4)(B) and (C) of Public Law 112-81, that there is a sufficient supply of petroleum from countries other than Iran to permit a significant reduction in the volume of petroleum and petroleum products purchased from Iran by or through foreign financial institutions. This determination follows Energy Information Administration reports including one submitted in April 2026 and says officials will continue to monitor supply conditions closely.
