Plan to Pursue Lumbee Federal Recognition
If you are a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina (the tribe has more than 55,000 members), the Secretary of the Interior must, within 90 days of January 23, 2025, submit a plan to help the tribe obtain full Federal recognition and the right to receive full Federal benefits. The plan must analyze each legal pathway, including an act of Congress, judicial action, or the Procedures for Federal Acknowledgement of Indian Tribes in 25 CFR part 83.
