Summary

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, with over 55,000 members, is on the path to full Federal recognition, which means they’ll finally get all the benefits they deserve. The government is working on a plan to make this happen within 90 days, exploring all legal options. This change could bring new opportunities and support to the largest tribe east of the Mississippi River.

The plan must analyze each legal pathway, including an act of Congress, judicial action, or the Procedures for Federal Acknowledgement of Indian Tribes in 25 CFR part 83.
