Published Date: 2/6/2025

Notice

Summary

Florida Gas Transmission Company wants to build new gas facilities in St. Landry and East Baton Rouge Parishes, Louisiana. The government is asking the public to share their thoughts on how this project might affect the environment before March 1, 2025. Your input will help decide if the project moves forward and how to protect the area, so don’t miss your chance to speak up!

Analyzed Economic Effects

6 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Landowner Easements and Eminent Domain Risk

If you own land near the project, the pipeline company may contact you to negotiate an easement to construct and operate the facilities. You are not required to agree, but if FERC approves the project the Natural Gas Act conveys eminent domain to the company, and the company could initiate condemnation in court with compensation determined by a judge under state law.

Land Disturbance of About 42.9 Acres

Construction of the proposed facilities would disturb about 42.9 acres of land for the aboveground facilities and the pipeline related to the project in Louisiana.

NEPA Review Will Evaluate Air, Noise, and More

FERC staff will prepare an environmental document that evaluates impacts on geology and soils; water resources and wetlands; vegetation and wildlife; threatened and endangered species; cultural resources; land use; air quality and noise; and reliability and safety for this project.

Historic Properties Consultation Under Section 106

FERC is initiating consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act with the State Historic Preservation Office(s), Indian tribes, and other parties to solicit views on potential effects to historic properties and will document findings in the environmental document.

Construction Confined to Compressor Station Sites

All proposed project activities would take place inside the existing compressor station site boundaries (CS 7.5 and CS 8) and no project-related activities will take place outside the fenced areas of those compressor stations in St. Landry and East Baton Rouge Parishes, Louisiana.

Public Comment Window and Assistance

The Commission requests written comments on the project scope by 5 p.m. Eastern Time on March 1, 2025, and staff will consider timely comments when preparing an Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement. The Commission's Office of Public Participation can help landowners, environmental justice communities, Tribal members, and others access information and file comments or interventions.
