Summary

Low Head Hydro M 18 LLC wants to study building a new hydropower project at Mississippi River Lock and Dam 18 in Iowa and Illinois. 60‑Day Window to Comment or Intervene

Proposed Public Park and Bridge Access

The proposed project would include improvements and an extension of a 1,600-foot-long, 40-foot-wide pedestrian bridge and creation of a public park and parking area adjacent to the control building at Mississippi River Lock and Dam 18 (Des Moines County, IA and Henderson County, IL). Local residents in Iowa and Illinois near the dam would gain this public access if the project and later licensing go forward.

No Entry or Construction Without Owner Permission

If a preliminary permit is issued, the permit does not allow the permit holder to perform land-disturbing activities or enter lands or waters owned by others without the owners' express permission. Landowners retain the right to deny entry or construction until permission is given.
