Published Date: 2/24/2025

Notice

Summary

NYSE Arca is updating its rules to let traders hold and exercise more options on the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust BTC and the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF. They’re also allowing new flexible options on these funds, giving investors more ways to trade. These changes could start soon and might open up bigger trading opportunities for folks dealing with Bitcoin-related options.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Position Limits Raised Tenfold

If you trade options on the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust (BTC) or the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), the Exchange proposes raising position and exercise limits from 25,000 contracts to 250,000 contracts for each Fund. This change means you could hold or exercise up to 250,000 contracts on BTC or BITB (aggregated same-side) instead of the current 25,000-contract limit.

FLEX Options Permitted and Aggregated

The Exchange proposes to permit FLEX (Flexible Exchange) options on BTC and BITB and to aggregate FLEX and non-FLEX positions for each Fund when calculating the 250,000-contract position and exercise limit. This would let market participants trade customized FLEX Fund options on these ETFs while counting FLEX and non-FLEX contracts together toward the same 250,000-contract cap.
