3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Flood map changes can alter insurance
FEMA is proposing changes to flood maps that may change Base Flood Elevations (BFEs), base flood depths, Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zones, or regulatory floodways for specific communities. These map updates might affect flood insurance rules and costs for property owners in the affected communities. You can review the proposed Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports for your community.
Communities must adopt floodplain rules
The preliminary FIRM and FIS reports are the basis for the floodplain management measures that a community must adopt or show evidence of having in effect. Communities need these measures in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Public comment chance before maps finalize
FEMA is asking for public comments on the proposed flood hazard determinations and the preliminary FIRMs and FIS reports for the listed communities. If you live in or own property in those communities, you have a chance to review and submit input before the changes become official.
