No PowerPoints in Tariffs: FERC's File Fiasco Alert
Published Date: 3/13/2025
Notice
Summary
If you file electronic tariff records, watch out! Embedding special objects like PDFs or PowerPoints inside your files isn’t allowed and could get your filing rejected or delayed. Also, when submitting settlement documents for hearings, use the right ALJ settlement codes to keep things smooth. These changes help speed up processing and avoid costly mix-ups starting now.

No Embedded OLE Objects in Tariffs
If you file electronic tariff records with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, do not embed OLE objects (for example, embedded .PDF or .pptx files) inside your tariff files. The Commission has long rejected .RTF filings with embedded objects (Validation Code 170, noted 11/25/2024); filings containing embedded OLE objects may be rejected or you may be contacted to remake the filing, and staff is creating checks to reject other file types with OLE objects.
