Federal immigration enforcement in DC
The order directs the Task Force to direct "maximum enforcement of Federal immigration law" and to redirect Federal, State, or local law enforcement resources to apprehend and deport illegal aliens in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It also calls for monitoring the District of Columbia's sanctuary-city status and compliance with Federal immigration law.
Immediate NPS cleanup of encampments and graffiti
The Secretary of the Interior is directed to immediately issue a directive to the National Park Service requiring prompt removal and cleanup of all homeless or vagrant encampments and graffiti on Federal land within the District of Columbia subject to the National Park Service's jurisdiction, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Federal-local crime-fighting task force
The order establishes the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force to coordinate federal and local agencies to prevent crime, protect landmarks, and boost public safety in the District of Columbia. The Task Force is chaired by the Assistant to the President and Homeland Security Advisor and includes multiple Federal law enforcement and Justice Department components.
Tougher federal pretrial detention review
The Task Force will review and, as appropriate, revise Federal prosecutorial policies on seeking pretrial detention to ensure that individuals who pose a genuine threat to public safety are detained to the maximum extent permitted by law. This directs Federal prosecutors to reassess pretrial detention practices related to public safety in the District of Columbia.
Crackdown on WMATA fare evasion and transit crime
The Task Force will collaborate with local entities to provide assistance to end fare evasion and other crime within the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) system. This affects transit systems serving the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
More federal enforcement in public spaces
The Task Force will deploy a more robust Federal law enforcement presence and coordinate with local law enforcement to increase presence in and about the District of Columbia, including places like the National Mall, Union Station, Rock Creek Park, and other named locations. The order directs strict enforcement of quality-of-life and public-safety laws such as prohibitions on assault, graffiti, trespassing, public intoxication, drug possession and sale, and traffic violations.
Faster, lower-cost concealed-carry processing
The Task Force will collaborate with local government entities to provide assistance to increase the speed and lower the cost of processing concealed carry license requests in the District of Columbia. This is an explicit effort to make processing of concealed-carry licenses faster and less expensive in D.C.
Federal beautification and cleanup program
The Secretary of the Interior will develop and implement a program to beautify the District of Columbia that includes a coordinated beautification plan for Federal and local facilities, restoration of damaged or defaced Federal public monuments, removal of graffiti from commonly visited areas, and a coordinated approach to cleanliness of public spaces, sidewalks, parks, highways, and transit systems. The program also encourages private-sector participation.
