Environmental Assessment with Public Comment
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will prepare an environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed redesigns and plans to complete the EA by July 8, 2025. The EA will be available for review and all comments filed on the EA will be considered; the Commission's Office of Public Participation (OPP) can help landowners, environmental justice communities, Tribal members, and others access information and make filings (OPP: (202) 502-6595).
Recreation Facilities Relocated at Lock & Dam #5
At Red River Lock & Dam #5 the licensee proposes to relocate the recreation facilities from downstream to upstream of the dam. If you use those recreation areas in Red River or Bossier parishes, Louisiana, the location where you access the facilities would change.
Turbine Redesign at Lock & Dam #4 (Same Output)
The unconstructed Red River Lock & Dam #4 project would be redesigned from one turbine producing 28.1 megawatts (MW) to five smaller Kaplan bulb turbine-generator units while keeping the same generating capacity of 28.1 MW. The proposed powerhouse would be about 170 feet wide, 135 feet high, and 180 feet long, and the headrace and tailrace channels would be redesigned.
