LNG Giants Face Pollution Probe in Louisiana-Texas Pipeline Push

Published Date: 5/15/2025

Notice

Summary

Venture Global wants to build new LNG and pipeline facilities in Louisiana and Texas, but some folks raised concerns about air pollution. The government took a closer look and updated their environmental report to make sure the project is safe for the air we breathe. This means the project’s approval is on hold until the new review is done, which could affect timing and costs.

Authorization Partially Set Aside for Air Quality Review

On November 27, 2024, FERC issued a Rehearing Order that set aside, in part, the June 27, 2024 Authorization Order for the CP2 LNG and CP Express projects to require additional review of cumulative air quality impacts specifically for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particles (PM2.5). FERC prepared this final supplemental EIS to assess those NO2 and PM2.5 cumulative impact issues as part of considering a further merits order for the project (dockets CP22-21 and CP22-22).

Final Supplemental EIS Available Online

FERC has posted a final supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) for the CP2 LNG and CP Express Pipeline Projects, which propose LNG facilities in Cameron Parish, Louisiana and pipeline facilities in Louisiana and east Texas. The SEIS is only available in electronic format on FERC's website and eLibrary (dockets CP22-21 and CP22-22); FERC Online Support can be reached at [email protected] or (866) 208-3676, and the Office of Public Participation at (202) 502-6595 or [email protected].
